![]() On December 20th, 1922, known then as only "The Rosedale", officially opened its doors. At the time, including the over-head balcony, the space held over 700 seats that were packed to the brim. Details like colored granite designs inlayed on the walls and freshly pressed tin roof ceiling dazzled the new theatre patrons. The first several months boasted sold out performances as visitors flocked to see the new state of the art theatre in all its new found glory. Fast forward one hundred years, and the building still stands to this day. Now, called the Vox Theatre (Vox meaning "voice" in Latin) the space is regularly filled by wedding guests, galas, corporate meetings, and other events. People from all walks of life, but in the end, they all have one thing in common; The desire to have a good time! ![]() When we celebrated this special milestone this past December, it was truly a joyous occasion. Special guest Mayor Gardner gave a special proclamation in honor of 100 years of the Vox Theatre. December 20th, 2022 was officially declared "Vox Theatre Day" as the room rung with applause! Everyone was reminded of how important it is to preserve the originality of historic treasures, like the Vox. The building is a living part of Kansas City history as we hope future generations continue to fill the room. The original stage proscenium remains as a reminder of the theatrics that once filled the space. OH, if only these walls could talk! Funnily enough, in our research we discovered that perhaps the Rosedale might have opened as early as 1916, but that is a story for another time...! ![]() One fun element was the inclusion of classic cocktails from the 1920s. Favorites like the French 75, Gin Rickey, Boulevardier, Hanky-Panky, and the Bee's Knees were served up by the lovely Lynette Downs. As an attendee, the writer can confirm that the drinks were sweet and satisfying! The Bee's Knees seemed to be the crowd favorite, but it was followed closely by the French 75. The libations truly brought back the Old World feel to the atmosphere. As friends and colleagues gathered, the warmth of fellowship filled the room. Drinks, food, and laughs aplenty; It was definitely a night for the books! We had the walls ringing once again! If you missed out on the ROARING good time, stay tuned for news on our next open house! In the meantime, see the slideshow below to view more of the night's highlights! All photos captured by Kristen Snyder, ksnyderphotography.com
